Goma Fire Ritual<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayers for traffic safety<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Takahata-Fudoson is known to as the head temple for praying for traffic safety, and is crowded with all sorts of vehicles and drivers everyday.<\/div>\n\n\n\n
Anyone who wishes to pray for traffic safety is welcome to come make a request. Here, we pray everyday to Fud\u014d My\u014d-\u014d for everyone\u2019s safety.<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The traffic safety prayer is accepted on the day, so please accept it about 10 minutes in advance. Apply at the traffic safety prayer reception desk.<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The rites begin at 0:00 on New Year\u2019s Day, at 6:00 on January 2 and 3, and at 8:00 from January 4 to January 7. Please make your request at the reception for prayers for traffic safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goma Ritual<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Goma, or homa in Sanskrit, means to burn. This ceremony represents the burning of bonnou, which is the source of suffering, by Buddha\u2019s fire of wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the Goma Ritual, a platform is set up with various offerings in front of the Fud\u014d My\u014d-\u014d. Then, a special firewood named Goma-ki is burnt down, and mantras are chanted in Mikky\u014d\u2019s characteristic prayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Goma fire is the symbol of wisdom, and the firewood represents bonnou (the source of suffering).  Through the Goma Ritual, the bonnnou represented by firewood is burned down by Fud\u014d My\u014d-\u014d\u2019s fire of wisdom, and along with the believers, their wishes are purified while they pray for their fulfillment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
