His mortuary tablet, as well as Shinsengumi\u2019s are kept at Dainichi-d\u014d Hall. His notes along with many other documents related to the Shinsengumi are being displayed at the Okuden hall.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">1835-1869<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">Born in Ishida Village, Tama region, Bushu Province.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">He was the youngest child of Hijikata Yoshiatsu, and his birth name was Yoshitoyo.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">His father died before his birth, and he was raised by his 2nd older brother Kiroku and his wife.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">Following his learning, he used to sell his family\u2019s Ishida medicine while practicing the Tennen Rishin-ry\u016b style of kenjutsu at his brother-in-law Sat\u014d Hikogor\u014d\u2019s dojo.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">In 1863, he went to the capital with Kond\u014d Isami where he served as the vice commander of the Shinsengumi.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">In 1868, he led the Shinsengumi instead of Kond\u014d Isami who was injured, and fought at the Battle of Toba-Fushimi.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">After their return to Edo (the ancient name of Tokyo), they formed the K\u014dy\u014d Chinbutai.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">Hijikata continued to fight in O\u016b even after Kond\u014d\u2019s execution.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">After the creation of the former shogunate\u2019s Hakodate government, he became a vice-minister of the army.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-iz88z86z86za0dz67zz78zz78zz74zz68zjz80zz71z9iz90z9z84zmy8z68zz90zrhwi2z71zz84zz90zsro2whz81zz88zz69z4z90zljz80zxz77z\">He was killed by a stray bullet during the Battle of Hakodate in
